The News in Pajamas

One of the most tangible memories my mom shared with me about her father was him calling her downstairs to show her the headline about the polio vaccine. I've told my sonnhow important this was to kids and parents back then, the lasting memory of it as proof. 

As I think more on what prompted this conversation between me and my mom, it was that I'd taken a biography of Dr. Salk out of the library during a grade school visit there. I'd had a shot for polio, but hadn't absorbed the impact the vaccine had back then, for kids and parents.

Today, I woke to the news that the COVID-19 vaccine is approved for kids under 12.
