Yeah, Like I Said...

The NYT Week in Review has a far more eloquent debate of the issue I fumbled with on January 8th, "Rights vs. Rights: An Improbably Collision Course." (Although, if the point is that the same racism and sexism at loggerheads situation happened in 1869, I'm not sure we can claim surprise that it's happening again now.)

Read it and imagine the voices of Frederick Douglass and Elizabeth Cady Stanton as commenters to the blog.

And good news, I can vote EARLY! Seems ironic in a town like Chicago, but I stopped listening to Jason telling me about his new hockey stick when the commercial came on television promising me that I can vote as soon as Monday. Confirmation came in a mailer in yesterday's mail. It's like Christmas coming on December 15th.

It's interesting to me that there seems to be a lot of focus on the 60's/70's. Having a woman or a black man run for president is truly history in the making and that seems like a true win-win to me.

Personally, I tend to like Hillary more, but truly in terms of overall views, both candidates are moderate liberals in belief and not too different from each other. Sure how they will deal with issues such as getting out of Iraq, increases in taxes, the health care crisis and weak dollar will differ but their overall rhetoric is the same. We want to get out of Iraq, tax cuts for the middle class/increase for the rich, peeps should have good health care and America is the best place in the entire world, yay us.

What we're starting to see is something that is kinda saddening me. Up until now, I feel that both Hil and Barack have been kinda cordial but now it seems the gloves are off. I know it's bound to happen in politics but to have a black man and a white woman bash each other is very frustrating for me to watch. I'd like to see the Democrats pick a candidate but not do it in such a way that awful things are said. It's kinda like a relationship- once those things are spoken, they can't ever get taken back.

Yeah, wouldn't there be some tragic irony if, in the battle of 'the firsts', Hillary and Obama tear each other down so much that John Edwards walks out of the rubble as the leader?
